Why Alex Collins could win you a championship

With training camp around the corner, fantasy season has officially begun. Some fantasy drafts are complete, but most of you are gearing up for your draft in the coming weeks. So let me fill you in on a player flying under the radar that could help you win your league this coming season.

Alex Collins.

Collins quietly put up some solid points in PPR leagues the second half of 2017. Remember, he was cut by Seattle, and Baltimore snatched him up. Little did the Ravens know how good of a pickup it was going to be. Once Collins became familiar and comfortable in the Ravens offense he took off.

From weeks 8-16 Collins averaged 15.11 points per game in PPR leagues. That was more than some very notable RBs such as:

Christian McCaffrey (14.99)

Leonard Fournette (13.73)

Jordan Howard (12.80)

Devonta Freeman (11.14)

Kenyan Drake (14.03)

During that span, he averaged only .7 points less than Kareem Hunt.

If you are still not sold on Collins as a starting running back on your fantasy team, you could consider him as a solid flex. Here are some great flex options that he outscored the second half of the 2017 season:

Alshon Jeffery (13.07)

A.J. Green (12.66)

Golden Tate (12.66)

Stefon Diggs (11.78)

Mike Evans (10.83)

Now I know this is not 2017. I know we don’t live in the past, but I expect bigger things from Collins this coming season. He has had a full offseason to prepare, as he has worked this offseason on his pass catching and pass blocking. “I can catch. I can Protect. I want the opportunity to show that.” Collins stated in the interview below.

The Ravens offensive line will be substantially better, as they will be welcoming back Marshal Yanda from injury. He suffered a season ending injury last year against the Cleveland Browns. If Yanda comes back in at 100%, he will be one of the premier run blockers in the NFL. The drafting of Orlando Brown Jr. at right tackle will help as well.

Do not worry about Kenneth Dixon. He will compete with Buck Allen to serve as Baltimore’s change-of-pace back behind Collins.

According to ESPN’s current draft results, Collins current ADP is PPR leagues has him at around pick 53. This is good value. Remember, Todd Gurley was slipping into the third round last year. He was drafted as an RB2 and won a lot of fantasy championships. David Johnson was the value RB the year before. Collins is not Johnson or Gurley, but he very well could be the value running back that wins you a championship this season.

“Draft me now, before it’s too late” Collins suggests to fantasy footballers out there.
